Houstonian Brings Breast Cancer Awareness to Africa

Matt Sampsell - KIAH

Philippa Decuir was born in Rwanda and raised in Uganda. She's lived in Houston for 25 years. A cancer survivor, Decuir has used her free time to establish an initiative to help african women become aware of and prevent breast cancer.

Decuir became an advocate after her sister died of breast cancer in 1986.

Her work has helped establish educational health classes in rwandan schools for young women.

Decuir has also made an impact by working with Rwandan's first lady, health minister as well as other government and health officials.
