Our AI Breast Health Screening Program is a transformative, community-centered initiative designed to address the critical gaps in early breast cancer detection and support in Rwanda. With only 5–10 radiologists available nationwide and an extremely limited number of mammography units, the country's current capacity to provide widespread screening is severely limited.
To overcome these barriers, we are pioneering the use of portable AI-powered screening devices—specifically the ISONO Health ATUSA portable ultrasound system and the Butterfly Network iQ+ handheld ultrasound device. These cutting-edge tools enable breast screenings to be delivered directly into communities, removing obstacles of distance, cost, and infrastructure. This creates an unprecedented opportunity to scale early detection efforts quickly and equitably across Rwanda.
This initiative enables the development of a full-spectrum Breast Health, Screening, and Support team, with our Pink House headquarters serving as both a training center and a screening site—creating a holistic and community-rooted program. Nurses, community health workers, and local healthcare providers will be trained to operate the devices, perform screenings, and support patients throughout the continuum of care, ensuring sustainability and community empowerment.
We are also in the process of finalizing a partnership with TELMED, a trusted organization with over 20 years of experience providing remote imaging solutions. TELMED’s groundbreaking Radiology as a Service platform connects over 22,000 radiologists across Europe, allowing for expert remote evaluation of imaging at scale. Through this partnership, images captured by our AI devices will be reviewed by top-tier radiologists, ensuring quality diagnostics even in the face of Rwanda’s local specialist shortage.
By combining state-of-the-art portable technology, global radiology expertise, and local capacity building, our program establishes a powerful new model for breast health—one that dramatically expands access to life-saving screening, strengthens the healthcare workforce, and brings hope and care to women and families across Rwanda.
